FLORØ

Florø, Sogn og Fjordane

The town of Florø was strategical important to the German occupying forces. It was far West, and had access out in the open sea, as well as being an important wharf. A fortress was built, HKB 5./981 Floröy, that together with "Stutzpunkt Storåsen" made the main bulk of the defence installations built in the town. "Stutzpunkt Storåsen" is on a hill overlooking the town and the ship lane, and had troops from all three defence arms, Kriegsmarine, Heer and Luftwaffe. A network of trenches, MG nests, bunkers and barracks was built. Today only the concrete remains, and some trenches. Two large solid bunkers are among what's left, but these are not accessible to the public. Some of the bunkers that are open, are dangerous to enter. They were closed for a few years, but people making use of sledgehammers, has opened the entrances again. Also in the town itself there was built bunkers, but these are either demolished or closed for the public. The former "Stutzpunkt" is today a recreation area.
