The town of Førde, which also is my hometown, was the main headquarter for the German forces in Sogn og Fjordane County during the war.
Several objects was built here, some of them are gone due to
urban expansion, but there are still many left. A few tunnels
and tunnelsystems was made, but only one remain intact. The
others are either demolished or plugged. The one that remain
was also the biggest one. It was used as ammunition storage, among
other purposes, but in case of an Allied invasion, the HQ staff would lead the
battles from inside the big bunker. It is today not accessible
for the public. On a hilltop just before coming into the town
from the west, one of the two strongholds, Stutzpunkt A (ADOLF), is located. It is a system of trenches, bunkers and MG-nests. The other
stronghold, Stutzpunkt B (Bertha), was the biggest one, and also includes the above
mentioned tunnelsystem. Much of this stronghold is gone today,
due to a large sand depot. There are only a few bunkers left,
and lots of barrack foundations. The last barrack in this
stronghold was demolished in the early eighties. Down from
the sand depot there are two barracks left, both of which
are to be demolished very soon.
A few large bunkers in the towncentre was demolished after
the war, or dugged down.
