Among the Thousand Young

Peter A. Worthy

Dedicated to my good friend, Corey Whitworth, in appreciation

I entreat of certain stones
Deep within the dead wood
Feeling the power in my bones
Calling out the Thousand Brood
Iä! Shub-Niggurath!

Stumbling forth on cloven feet
They vomit forth from night
Toward the fallen obelisk to meet
Under the wan moonlight
Iä! Shub-Niggurath!

To act as Her priests on Earth
They enjoin in ritual
Elephantine horrors of Her birth
To the Black Goat they call
Iä! Shub-Niggurath!

Through the whirling portal
That allows Her entry from Outside
All Thousand Young in silence fall
To their Great Mother and Guide
Iä! Shub-Niggurath!

Her many varied members
Enshrined in swirling cloud
Glowing with unnatural alien embers
She descends, I stand head bowed
Iä! Shub-Niggurath!

I am initiated, Her gift is given
My transformation is done
The old human shell left riven
I join the Thousand Young
Iä! Shub-Niggurath!
