Folks of Innsmouth

Halloweener

Franklyn Searight

Yes, Halloween in Innsmouth is such fun.
Kids love to beg for all that yummy stuff.
We wear strange costumes even though the folks
Who pass the candy out are weird enough.
We children prowl the spooky, blackened streets
Where jack-o-lanterns fume like smoky torches.
Just who or what will answer to our knocks
We wonder, stepping lightly on the porches.
One year a child like me was much too brave;
He banged upon a splintered cellar door.
He shouted, "Trick-or-treat" - the hatch swung wide.
A claw reached forth, and he's been seen no more!
