NOTE: This walkthrough is incomplete and under heavy constuction.

Coming Eventually: My own personnal map drawings (as in a map of the Guardia Dungeon, etc.) will eventually be added when this walkthrough is complete.

Good morning, rise and shine, and welcome to the Chrono Trigger Walkthrough!  Judging by the fact that you are reading this, you just started your game and have hopped out of bed.  Oh, and if you go up to the curtains and press the A button, they open and shut!  Back to the game......

The Millennial Fair
Follow your mommy downstairs.  After she tells you to visit Lucca, talk to her again by the sink and she'll give you 200g.  Search around the continent a little, but keep out of Guardia Forest unless you're looking to level build.  Be sure to stop at the Mayor's Manor in Truce for playing instructions and demos, and, drop by the Ticket Office, where you will meet Elaine, who you should take care not to forget.
Head for the Millennial Fair.
Talk to everyone on the first screen before moving on to the second, and maybe earn some silver points, and then you can move on to the second screen.  There will be a girl with blond hair running around, and, though this will sound kinda funny, make sure you bump into her!  After she falls down and her pendant goes flying, talk to her before picking it up to make sure she is okay.  You will go through a short introductory sequence with the girl, Marle, and you should let her come with you.
Before You Procede...

Before you can see Lucca's invention, here is a short list of things you should and should not do. These will get you the best possible outcome later on.

  • Go to the left, where you will see a pink pouch. This is an old man's lunch. Do NOT eat it! This means not pressing the "a" button in front of it.
  • Just a little further up from the pouch is a cat. Talk to the cat, and it will follow you around. Be careful, though, because you can loose it if you run too far ahead. To the extreme right is a little girl who has been looking for her cat, which is currently following you. Talk to her, and she will take back her cat and thank you.
  • If you talk to Melchior with Marle in your party, do NOT try to get her to sell her pendant!
  • When Marle stops to get some cotton candy, do NOT talk to her while you are standing in front of the cotton candy vendor. If you follow this procedure, Marle will thank you for being so patient.

Now, talk to a few people and enjoy the festivities.  Eventually, you will be informed that Lucca's invention is ready.  Head up to see it, but before you enter the next area with the invention, Marle will stop you so she can get some cotton candy.
Okay, to the invention sequence!  After going through the telepod, step down and talk to Marle and she'll try it.  Watch her disappear, and then pick up her pendant.  After disappearing yourself, you'll reappear in unfamiliar territory on a mountain.  Go down the mountain, but beware of battles, and continue your quest for Marle.

The Queen Returns
Once outside of the mountain, you find yourself in an even stranger place.  Go into Truce Inn, where a man will come in and sit down.  His name is Toma Levine, and if you buy him some cider, he'll lend you a clue, whether you realize it or not.
Explore a little, though you will find that your expeditions will be cut off by a broken Zenan Bridge, but, if you ask around, you will learn that you are currently in the year 600 A.D.  Now you should head through Guardia Forest, and ultimately Guardia Castle.
Inside the forest, you should go right to the two paths.  Take the one leading down into a grove. Close to directly ahead of you is a rock with another glowing spark next to it.  Pick this up, it's useful.  You may also notice, as you travel downward through the grove, another rock with a spark on it.  This will only bring you into a battle, but pick it up anyway; you need the experience.
Exit the grove and then take the path above it.  The second bush you'll see is shaking, and if you go up to it and press the "a" button, a critter jumps out and drops a shelter as he runs away from you.  You can find your way through the rest of the forest by yourself; that's all the important stuff and this isn't a particularly complex place.
Once inside Guardia Castle, you will be stopped by some guards, but Queen Leene will come to the rescue.  Check out the Knight's Quarters to the left of where you are and down some stairs, where you learn more about the war with Magus and this mysterious Cyrus fellow (don't worry, it'll all be revealed in good time).  To the right of the entrance and down some stairs is the kitchen, where you can pick up some grub and a neat little bit about the chef and his brother the knight captain, who are not exactly on good terms.
Head for the throne room and learn that the Queen has been acting strangely ever since she was found from the king, and that she is missing her coral pin, and talk to the chancellor, who will then walk upstairs to the left.  Follow him and catch him snooping.  Now, go back to the throne room and head for the right set of stairs leading up to visit the Queen.
Find out that Leene is actually Marle, and watch her mysteriously disappear.  Then, head back downstairs to be met by Lucca, who will explain everything and join you.  Exit the Castle and head for the Cathedral to the west.

The Queen is Gone
Once inside the Cathedral, you will meet some strange nuns.  Talk to the one by the organ, and then a glowing spark will appear in front of the alter.  Pick it up and find out that it's Queen Leene's coral pin that she "lost".  The nuns will then turn into naga-ettes you must fight.
After the battle, Lucca will be surprised by yet another naga-ette, and a green hero will come to her aid.  This is Frog.  You'll want to go with him to save the Queen. To open the hidden door, play the organ, and it'll practically reveal itself.
Before you, assuming that you're through the door, are two options: left, or through another door straight ahead.  I recommend the door, as long as you remember to visit the left on your way out (it's full of boxes).  Once through there, fight the diablos and gnasher before you, and then go up the staircase in front of you.  Head through the first door you see.
Find out the truth about the Chancellor and more about Leene from the dining monsters, then follow the diablo/gargoyle thingy to the second door.  Now you are faced with what appears to be the King, Queen, and a guard who all sound pretty fishy.  Try to leave, and they will reveal their true forms as gnashers.

Item Checklist:
The Cathedral

Speed Belt
Defender
Naga-ette Bromide
Steel Saber
Power Tab
Revive
Heal
Shelter
Iron Sword
Maiden Suit
Money
Mid Ether
Tonics
Ethers

After fighting them, stay in the room, except go to the indented area in the wall to the right, a semi-hidden door!  Watch some obsessed monsters sing Magus's praises,  Head up to the big Magus statue to collect a Speed Belt and a Defender.  I'd recommend the belt for Lucca.  If you try to talk to the monsters, they'll attack you, but you could use the experience.
You can leave now, heading down the staircase and going to the one on the left.  Enter the first door first.  Inside are three boxes, and also a drawer (left) containing the "Secret Naga-ette Bromide", which I'll tell you what to do with later.  However, you'll be attacked when you take it.
After the battle, leave the room and head upwards from there, taking the Steel Saber from the box.  Some spikes block the way to the second door, but you can get to the skull switch to lower them by simply walking along the lower wall.  Go through the door.
Inside are the captured soldiers the eating monsters mentioned.  In the pot by the wall is a power tab, appearing as yet another glowing spark.  Don't worry about the treasure in the Magus room, you already have it.  Leave the room, go down the stairs, and head up the center now.
Behind the door is a save, which you should most deffinately use.
Go up the stairs and to the right. The stairs will collapse on you, followed by a battle, but after that, you can head through the door into a monster-filled room. Hit the skull switch on the left wall, and then leave the room. In the center of the hall you are now in is a platform with a paper plastered on it, reading: NOTE: NO ENTRY. Get the two boxes and walk left to the opposite end of the hall.
Head down through the door, hit the skull switch, and then procede out the unused door. Here you'll find a sleeping henchman, which you can sneak past. Get the box on the balcony, and go through the new door in the center of the wall. Use it, and you'll enter a room where you'll be attacked by three hench and two diablos. The treasure box to the right contains an Iron Sword. After you take that, go to the organ on the left and play it. This causes a door to open.
Go back to the platform with the "NO ENTRY" note above it, and you'll find that door. The paper now says "NOTE: Try hard enough and you will find a way in." Go through the door and fight the two hench before you--if you don't fight them now they'll team up on you with the two naga-ettes up ahead. Aside from those four, there are two other hench to be fought, and then there's a save point. Heal up and save.
Through the next door, you'll find a room garnishing an alter, and also containing Queen Leene and the Chancellor. Leene will run away to safety when Frog challenges the Chancellor, who changes into none other that the monster Yakra.
The best strategy for this battle is probably to have Crono and Frog use the Dual Tech Cross-Slash (if you have it), and keep Lucca free for healing when necessary. Watch out for counterattacks.
After the battle, Leene will thank you and head down to the bottom of the screen. Open both boxes, one of which contains the real chancellor. Follow the Queen and then you will be whisked away to the castle after a brief conversation.
Once back at the castle, the chancellor will decide upon creating a criminal justice system, and Frog will leave your party. Talk to the King and Queen and Lucca will suggest going back to the Queen's room to look for Marle (the right staircase from the throne room).
As you enter the Queen's room, Marle will begin to reappear. She finds out that you know who she is, and asks if you would have shown her around anyway. You want to answer "wrong" since she said that you wouldn't have shown her around if you knew who she was.
When you exit the throne room, Frog is waiting. When you talk to him, he tells you why he's so glum and then leaves. Lucca will admit that she really did like "Froggy". Make sure you talk and rest before you leave the castle.
Exit the forest and speak with the people in Truce again. Then head back up the mountain where you came from. When you reach the portal, Lucca will reveal the gate key she created which will allow you to get home.

We're Back!
Back home in 1000 A.D., Marle will invite you to dinner at the castle. Lucca will decline and ask you to take Marle home. As you leave the Millenial Fair, you still want to follow the Do's and Don'ts.
Head for Guardia Forest. As you enter, head right and take the Southern path into the grove. In the upper right corner is a power tab, and to the south is what looks like a big mushroom. This is a new enemy. The rest of the forest is identical to 600 A.D..
Inside Guardia Castle, you will be met by the chancellor. He will tell you he thought Princess Nadia (Marle) was kidnapped and will accuse Chrono of abducting her. Guards will come your way, and, despite Marle's efforts, you will find yourself in a court house; the justice system the 600 A.D. Chancellor vowed to create.
