The Last Chance by Newt

A fathomless blue
A keyhole in the mind
One can never forget
What you won't leave behind
For though winter's embers will slowly die
We'll always know we have to say
That dreaded word--goodbye

They were all too cool for their own skin
And far too hip to think they'll pay
It's frightening how wrong things can go
When you start to think this way
Someday we'll all look back at this
And you'll wonder why you didn't think
You'll miss the good times and joy we all shared
When you stand at abyss's brink

What kind of a monster did I make of thee?
An envious mad creature too stubborn to see?
Long deaf ears
Often never open again
Would we do the same things
If we'd known of it then?

How many chances to we get at life?
For heaven's sake, just think!
Our populous is never to great
And pens do someday run out of ink
How can we face the inevitable,
When one still dwells upon a grudge?
Maybe we won't really miss each other at all
When onward we do trudge

Yesteryear, my long dead friend
How peaceful is your grave
What would you do now, my dear
This friendship for to save?
I think much more clearly now
My friends
As clear as heaven's breath does breathe
Storms are shifting the times away
Our minds are all's left when we can no longer see
Lightning lines the molasses sky
Our final minutes grow short
The earth groans beneath our feet
Won't you please just try?

We're running out of air now
This is the last chance you'll ever take
Nothing matters anymore now
Think, for heaven's sake!

For heaven's…

Time has passed far too quickly now
Our last chance has now flown by
In the growing silence after the fleeting storm, I whisper,
"How could our friendship die?"

The ground made sodden by rain
Like thousands a summer flood
Is all remaining of this moment
Our last chance to make good

You are gone from me now
And I from you
And she from me
In a desolate world of eternal gray skies
How could we just not see?

A fathomless gray
A keyhole in the mind
One shall never forget
What trails the tears do leave behind.
For winter's embers did far too quickly die
We always have known we'd have to say,
And now have said
Goodbye…
