Anders Ekman and Farry Kai Kuture(who's no longer with the band) started the band in Stockholm around 85-86. The idea was to try to blend all kinds music styles. The founder the band were tired of the different attitudes that go along with the different music genres.Tehy just wanted to play music without the feeling of being attached to any particular style. To be able to do that they decided to gather around themselves with people with different backgrounds, musically but with the love for the "African music" particularly "soukous" as a common denominator. This idea has impregnated the music of Black Rhino in spite of new members leaving or joining the band.
During the years Black Rhino has been playing all over Sweden and in other Scandinavian countries. The band has performed at festivals such as the "Stockholm water festival" Umeå, Piteå, Falun Gävle,Malmö, Copenhagen festivals....different clubs such as the famous "Fasching Jazz club" in Stockholm, Swedish national radio , TV appearance as a back up band for A. Kristine Hedmark,a collaboration that resulted in an album...
With all the energy created on stage ,emanating from the blend of soukous, blues, funk, Black Rhino never fails to fill dancing floors where ever they perform.
