Looking North on Second Street around the turn of the Century. |
| This 1929 photo was taken at Booth's Store on Second and Franklin Streets. They sold candy, canned goods, and a little bit of everything. Next to the store was a barbershop where you could get a hair cut for 25-cents. |
Everyone came out to watch this footrace that went down South on 2nd Street around the 1880's. Notice the blurred figures (the runners) and "The Lyric" on the left. Foot Race down Second Street. A friend of my father, Joseph Monahan, told me he remembered going to see one of the races when he was a young boy. "They started at the corner of Hancock & Second Street and would race to Gorman's corner" (Second & Lawton). |
