Initially six of us were going to go to City Club, a popular goth/industrial club in downtown Detroit, dressed in full clown regalia. Unfortunately, getting six of my friends to congregate in one place at one time without the offer of free alcohol is difficult.
But a better opportunity came along. October 16, 1999, Christian Death played a show at St. Andrew's hall in Detroit. Nim Wunnan and I both went dressed as clowns. We did not, unfortunately, make and take any of the above business cards with us. We did have small hand-printed chicken-head cards that we handed out, however.
Sean DeSantis accompanied us as the "straight man". It was good to have him along...he had pockets.
Although friends were concerned that we would be shot/mugged/beat-up/mutilated/etc. I was pretty sure I knew Detroit better. But the results surprised even me. I have never seen so much genuine curiousity and friendliness from the denizens of downtown Detroit.
Someone at the concert asked us: are you part of the Cacophony Society? No, not really...but we are a cacophony unto ourselves.
(Mike Pfeiffer even mentioned us clowns in his review of the concert. Were we really so sinister, Mike?)
