One
hundred years have passed since Americans had first embarked on the roads
of international
presence, of seeking possessions and influence overseas, on actively proliferating
their values, their ideals,
their religion and on selling their products representing all this to
foreign people. Another fourty years of ‘their century’ passed, the environment has changed yet again for Americans’ foreign relations. The earlier changes have been unmade, the challenges for America’s predominant position seem to have faded away (at least for now). The questions
that under these circumstances become evident at the formal end of The
American
Century
are:
- what ideas have gained or lost importance and how will future concepts
Understanding that history cannot be written in advance nor is it predestined in any way, all evaluations of the future will present mainly my personal opinion developped by observing current trends and tendencies. |
