Dr. Terry Maxwell

Terry Maxwell is a native of San Angelo and has been a student of its area birdlife since the early 50s. Following a college education in wildlife science, he began a lifetime career in biology at Angelo State University where he remains a professor today. He is curator of birds at the Angelo State Natural History Collections.

Although most of his activities with birdlife has involved natural history investigations of Texas birds and direction of graduate thesis studies, he has since 1967 been a member of research expeditions to Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, Peru, Ecuador, and Guyana. Specimens he has collected and prepared are found today at LSU, Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences, Texas Cooperative Wildlife Collections (Tex. A&M), and Angelo State University.

His column, Naturally Texas, began in 2000 and appears in the San Angelo Standard Times. He draws illustrations for many of the columns. Angelo State University and the San Angelo Standard Times sponsored a showing of his artwork associated with the columns in the summer of 2002 in the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts.
