On the 24th september Baners army caught up with their enemy in the hilly terrain just south of the little town Wittstock. The Imperial army and the Saxons had desided to wait for the Swedish army in Shaffenberg behind the wagons and the earthworks waiting for the swedish troops to come from the swampy fields and to get slaughtered in good order
But instead there was a message saying that the Swedish troops had marched through the woods and were attacking the left flank of the German army. They were forced to abandon the earthworks when the battle began. It went on for hours. It was no arranged fight swarms of brigades and squadrons pushed each other time after time.It was one of the most bloodiest and longest cavalry fights in the war.
The swedish army was in a bad situation.Baner had at the beginning of the battle sent the left wing under lead of general leutenant King on a daring march through swampy terrain to attack the back of the german army.
The problem was that the left wing took long time.During the time Baners troops were worn down by the superior resistence. The swedish troops were near a break down when a distant noice declaired that King and the left wing had finaly found its way back to the battle field.
The pressure was relived instantly and imperial forces went backwards, but the evening put an end to the further struggle. The two armies set camp at the battle field ang lightened their campfires only a few hundered meteres from each other.
The night became quiet, the only thing you could hear was the sprinkeling of shots from the woods.Early in the cold sunday morning the roughed up sweeds, went up on the hills they had tried to concuer the day before to see that no one was there. The saxons and the imperial forces had fled the field and all that was left where roaws of abandoned cannons.
