Was born in Lodejno 28 of September of 1897, in the bosom of a peasant family, in 1916 was mobilized by the czarist army;  it was joined to the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1918.  In 1919, already in the Bolshevik decree, entered in the artillery body of the Red Army and 
participated in the combats against the forces of the general Kolchak.   
Also it fought, in the Extreme East, against Semenov and the Japanese.  In 1926 receives classes in the Training School Superior for Official, from the Military Academy Frunze.  The career of Koniev continuous in ascent during the following decade, when arrives be commanding of several districts of the Soviet Union.  To be produced the German invasion to Russia, it was the first Soviet commander that counteratack, in Yelnya, to some 300 kilometers to the southeast of the capital.  At the month of August of 1941. In that same year, collaborated with the marshal Zukov, then commanding in chief of the defenses of Moscow, in the crucial moment of the contest, when the German troops were seen obligated to the doubling.  In 1944 Koniev was ascended to marshal.  Was commanding, by that date, the first front of Ukraine.  Advancing by Silesia, Sajonia and Czechoslovakia, it achieved be joined with the forces of the marshal Malinovski.  Among 1945 and 1946 assumed the command of the Soviet troops in Austria and Hungary.  General inspector of the Army and vice-minister of the Defense (1950s - 52); presided the court that condemned to Lavrenti Beria;  of 1955 to 1960s was 
commanding in chief of the Forces of the Agreement of Warsaw.  During the XIX Congress of the Communist Party of the U.S.S.R., still under the Stalinist hegemony, it was appointed titular member of the Central Committee and 
reelected in February of 1956, during the new era was that were opened with the XX Congress, under the regime of Kruschev.  In 1960s was resigning by health reasons, to the command of the Forces of the Agreement of Warsaw.  Occupied next the commander cargo in chief of the Soviet armies in East Germany. But in 1962 was withdrawn definitely from the military life.  In six occasions had received the Order of Lenin, in addition to other honours. For two times was proclaimed Hero of the Soviet Union.  Died in Moscow 21 of May of 1973.
