Ivan Danilovich Tcherniakovski was born in Uman (Ukraine) in 1906.
After be graduated in the Military Artillery School, served as
lieutenant in
25º artillery regiment in Zhitomir. In 1940s was destined
as captain an armored unit; in 1941 contributed to the success
of Jelna and, per year
following, was distinguished in Voronezh. 8 of February
of 1943, already youth general brigade, would be empowered of Kursk, defending courageously the bridge head thus formed against
the offensive of von Kluge (5 of July of 1943). Upon beginning
of new his offensive general the Red Army, Tcherniakovski would
be distinguished in the battle of Kiev (6 of November of 1943)
and would compel to von Manstein to be refolded. In
March of 1944 took part in the offensive directed by Zukov toward
the Carpathian Mountains and provoked the fall of Ternopol . Stalin
relied to him
then the command of the 3º front of Belarus. 23 of
June Tcherniakovski assaulted on the Germans in connection with Vitebsk, reached Beresina river and entered Vilna. In October
of 1944 is the first
Soviet general in penetrating in German territory. Few months after, already in 1945, would conquer Eastern
Prusia.
Unfortunately, 28 of February of 1945 Tcherniakovski would die
before Königsberg, the same day in which Stalin was signing
his ascent to marshal of the Soviet Union.
