History
Christ Lutheran Church began in 1910 and was known as St. Matthew Congregation. In 1913, the Church name was changed to Christ English Lutheran Church. Worship services were held at the Odd Fellows lodge as well as the 5th floor of the Tribune Building. In 1915, the property at 14th and walnut streets was purchased and dedication services were held on August 1st, 1915. The name of the church was changed to Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church. In 1938, the property at 24th and poplar streets was purchased and the church still stands strong and proud.
