As you have seen, there is much to learn and research on Filipino Architecture, past, present, future. I have come up with some questions that I see as unanswered that you as an interested reader I encourage to research. There are many questions, some with no answers, but feel free to add any you see fit. Thank you for taking the time to add to this site.

  1. First, what is Filipino Architecture? Is it something original? Is it something that is a mixture of different influences, such as Spanish, Chinese, American and Islamic? If so, does orginality come from the combination of these influences along with response to climate, materials, etc.?
  2. What did the first Nipa Huts look like? How did they come to be?
  3. Are there written records of construction, rituals, traditions in house building? Was it just an oral tradition passed down from generation to generation? If there are records, can these records be found?
  4. Did the elements in Filipino Architecture have names before the Spanish colonizers? Why do some of these names have their roots in Spanish?
