Ikuko
Tsukino is the earth-mother of Usagi (Sailormoon).
She appears both in the manga and anime. Her hair colour is much to be
debated. In earlier works by Naoko Takeuchi, and in all of the anime episodes
she is featured in, her hair is a dark purplish COLOUR.
However, in the later series of Bishojo Senshi Sailormoon, Ikuko's hair
colour switches to a bright pink, similar to this COLOUR.
Ikuko
is wife to Kenji Tsukino,
Usagi's father. She's also mother of
Usagi's
bratty brother, Shingo.
She is a very caring mother, and loves her children very much. She seems
to always know when Usagi
will forget something ... "Usagi!? Did you clean your room?" ... "Usagi!!
You forgot your lunch!!" ... "Usagi? Did you do your homework?" ...
(and Usagi's favorite) "Usagi!!! Dinner!!!". She ends up playing
2nd mother to her "niece"Chibiusa*,
treating her as if she were one of her own children. She
also
returns to her role of "honourary mother" at the appearance of Chibi
Chibi (Sailormoon Sailorstars). In the manga,
Ikuko (also Kenji
and Shingo) are
brainwashed into thinking that Chibi Chibi was in fact part of their family
- Ikuko's daughter, and Usagi's sister!! (see
Volume #16, Act #45) Ikuko also loves the
pet of the family - Luna.
She calls Luna,
"Luna-chan."
She loves cooking. In fact, every time we see her, she is either in the kitchen, or dressed with an apron! Her specialty, according to Usagi, is "Lemon Pie." (see episode #131 - Sailormoon SuperS)
Ikuko's
first appearance is in episode #1 of Sailormoon in the anime, and in Volume
#1
(Act
#1) in the manga. The last time we see Ikuko in the manga is when we see
her watching Usagi
leave the house, holding Luna,
Artemis and Diana
in her arms; tears run down her face. "Funny," she says, "I don't think
Usagi will be coming home."(see Volume #17,
Act # 47).
*Chibiusa brainwashed Ikuko, Shingo, and Kenji, by the use of Luna-P, into thinking she was a niece/cousin of the family.
