the Great Goddess Forever she has graced our night skies, bringing with her the rhythm of nature and blessing us with the ability to see through the night. The Moon has been revered in all cultures as a great being of beauty and marvel, bringer of the tides and keeper of the stars. "The rhythms of the Moon are at least as important as those of the Sun. While the Sun is linked to consciousness and reasoning the Moon is associated with the unconscious, and regarded as 'feminine'. Instinct and feminity are close to the hearts of pagans generally. Earth is the body of the Goddess, but the gleaming Moon, waxing as Maiden, Full as Mother and waning as Crone is Her celestial manifestation. The Moon rules menstruation and the tides of life. Her phases affect the growth of plants, the incidence of accidents, bleeding from wounds, and entry to mental hospitals. She also rules the entry into the Mysteries of self-knowledge, body-knowledge and spiritual experiences." - Teresa Moorey. WAXING MOON (from the New Moon to the Full) This is the ideal time to perform positive magick, and magick for gain. It is the time of beginnings, health and healing, fertility, psychic awareness and beauty. If you are planning on building up your immune system now is the time to do it... find out what vitamins and minerals will help you build-up your system. Drink more water to avoid water retention (the less water we drink, the more our bodies feel the need to retain), take therapeutic baths and relax in the growing energies of the growing maiden moon. If you need to perform spells for gain (ie. money, love, health, job employment) this is the best time to do so, as most spells such as these come to fruition around the Full Moon. FULL MOON The full moon lasts about three days, and is the time of greatest power. It is in the phase of the Mother Goddess and it's energies reflect protections, love, healing purification, money, travel and psychic awareness. This is a great time to perform Drawing Down the Moon, the ritual of invoking the Moon Goddess and drawing on her energies to heal, put into positive actions or to empower tools. For crystals, the energy of the full moon will cleanse and charge them, so make sure they are on a window sill, or even outside under the moonlight. If your crystals are big enough not to get lost, you might like to put them on your lawn (if you have one) so that they are charged by the energies of the earth as well as the moon, though this is not necessary. Energy during the full moon is magnified and more powerful, so expect to full more emotional, sick (if you are ill) or anything you are experiencing to be magnified. It is a good time to be around people and to perform healings. The Full moon is associated with the Mother, growth, fulfillment, sexuality, maturation, nuturing and love. WANING MOON (from the Full Moon to the New) The waning moon, time of the Crone Goddess, is a time for study, meditation, and little magickal work (except for magick designed to banish harmful energies). It is a good time to perform magick for banishments of habits, addictions, desease and negatives. During this time it is good to release jealousy, guilt and past hurts. On a healing level, purifying herbs such as sage, usnea, ginger, lemon, lavender and thyme can be taken in herbal teas in moderation. This is a great time to go and get yourself a full body massage to help you release stress and body aches :-) The Waning moon is associated with the woman past menopause, old age, deep secrets, wisdom, divination, prophecy, death and resurrection and endings. NEW MOON The New Moon is when the moon is not seen in the sky at all for a few days between the waning and the waxing moons. It is a time for taking stock of your current situation, whether it be physical, mental or spiritual, or all three. Many people find they like to hibernate or retreat during the new moon, and this is not a bad thing. It is a good time for contemplation, rest and quiet. The If you want to work with deities during the different phases of the moon try some of these. I have mainly Celtic listed, but plan on putting more up when I have the time to research more :-) MOON DEITIES Goddesses Arianrhod Artemis Cerridwen Dechtere Diana Eri of the Golden Hair Queen of Elphame Hathor Hecate Isis Lunah Mari Nimue Phoebe Rhiannon Selene The Triple Goddess Gods Atlas Khonsu Sin If you plan on working with the triple goddess, or any of her phases (maiden, mother, crone) during the phases of the moon (waxing = maiden, full = mother and waning = crone) some of these goddesses might come to mind: Aedh, Cimbaeth and Dithorba Anu, Danu and Badb Bo Find, Bo Dhu and Bo Ruach Brid Bwlch, Cyfwlch and Syfwlch Deae Matres Dechtere Edain (three incarnations) Eire, Fodhla and Banbha The Eponae Fiongalla Irnan Latiaran, Inghean Bhuidhe and Lesair Lugaid Raib nDerg Melusine, Melior and Palatina The Morrigan Naoise, Ardan and Ainle Olwen Day: Monday Colour: White or Silver (new moon) Red or Green (full) Black (waning) Element: Water Angel: Gabriel Zodiac Sign: Cancer Numbers: 3 and 9 Crystal and gemstones: Moonstone, Quartz, Pearl, Opal, Milky Quartz Incense: Jasmine, Temple, Poppy, Sandalwood, Myrtle Tree: Willow Animals: Elephant, Cat, Hare Return to Aerin's Spiritual Retreat Ask Aerin a question |
