Source of Powers: Can make or do almost anything he desires from a power ring given to him by Ganthet, the last Guardian. Ring is recharged via a battery, also left by Ganthet.

Bio: Kyle is a freelance artist, living in New York City. While living in Los Angeles, Kyle was given the last power ring of the Guardians of the Universe by Ganthet, who promptly left. Soon after, he used his ring successfully against Ohm, a two-bit villian, and changed the original Green Lantern costume to the one we see today. Kyle later fought Mongul and saved a future Los Angeles from destruction during a Zero Hour incident. His life changed when his girlfriend Alex Dewitt was murdered by Major Force, who was hired by a secret organization to take Kyle's ring. Kyle was then caught up in the Zero Hour incident, where he, along with many other heroes, saved the universe from being rewritten by Hal Jordan, aka Parallax. Kyle was forced to destroy the planet Oa, the former home of the Guardians, to prevent Hal from getting any more power. Kyle moved to New York City following his outer space adventures and joined the New Titans. He also started a relationship with Donna Troy, a Darkstar, which has had its ups and downs. Kyle then went on a "Hero Quest" to seek out wisdom from Batman and Robin, Sentinel, Captain Marvel, and Wonder Woman on being a hero. After his battle with Grayven, Kyle enlisted the help of Connor Hawke (Green Arrow) to help find his own father. They were not able to find him, but a good friendship was made between the two. During the summer, Kyle and other superheroes were put under a spell by Dr. Destiny and the Knowman. After their defeat, the seven of them formed a new Justice League. Currently, Kyle is being hunted by Fatality, who has also stolen Kyle's power battery!

Real Name: Hal Jordan

First Appearance: Showcase #22

Source of Powers: Absorbed powers from various sources, initially from the main power battery on Oa (Green Lantern #50). Other sources include: chronal energies leftover from Crisis on Infinite Earths (Zero Hour #1), Oa's raw energy (Green Lantern #0), G anthet, the last Guardian (Green Lantern #64), the batteries of Alan Scott and Guy Gardner (Green Lantern Annual #4), and the power cosmic from the Silver Surfer (Green Lantern/ Silver Surfer).

Bio: Hal Jordan was working as a test pilot in his home town of Coast City, when he was chosen by a dying alien named Abin Sur to weld a powerful ring because of his courage and fearlessness. This ring could create anything the welder desired, limited by the will of the bearer. Its only weakness is that it could not affect anything yellow. However, the ring had a time-dependent charge and had to be reenergized by means of a "battery."
Abin Sur was only one of 3600 members of a corps of Green Lanterns, commanded by a race of aliens called the Guardians of the Universe. The Guardians provided power to the main power battery on the planet Oa from which all the corps members derive their powers from. The Guardians then sent Hal to bring in Sinestro, a renegade Green Lantern who used his power ring for personal gain, a violation of Guardian rules. Sinestro was brought down by Hal and was subsequently stripped of his ring and sent to anot her dimension. Sinestro, while exiled, came upon another power ring which gained its powers from other Green Lanterns. This power ring was yellow and used yellow-shifted energy instead of green. Over time, Sinestro and Hal fought on several occasions, u ntil Sinestro was banished into the main power battery on Oa.
Meanwhile, Hal became a superhero, mainly concentrating on his home town of Coast City, and joined the Justice League of America. Hal also teamed up with Oliver Queen, aka the Green Arrow, and became best friends with him. He had many romantic connection s, including his boss Carol Ferris of the Ferris Aircraft Company.
The Green Lantern Corps broke up several times and Hal lost his ring about just as many. The Guardians were very strict in their rules and laws and on Hal became very frustrated with them. All this came to a head in Green Lantern #48.
In Superman #80, Coast City was destroyed by the intergalactic conquerer Mongul and the Superman imposter later known as the Cyborg. Seven million people died. Hal, in grief, used his power ring to resurrect Coast City. When his ring's 24-hour charge expired, Jordan asked for more power from the Guardians. The Guardians, from a holo-projection, said no and instead ordered him to relinquish his ring. Jordan refused and took power from the Guardian's projection and proceeded to Oa for power. Along the way, he encountered many Green Lanterns and defeated every one of them, killing some and maiming others. When he reached Oa, the Guardians released Sinestro against Jordan. Jordan killed Sinestro and absorbed all the power from the main battery, consequently killing all but one of the Guardians (for more info about this Guardian see Kyle Rayner. Jordan then went on a quest for morepower. Calling himself Parallax, he absorbed some chronal energies leftover from the Crisis of Infinite Earths and proceeded to rewrite the universe in his image. He was stopped by a team of superheroes, which included Kyle Rayner, the new Green Lantern. Afterwards, he tried to get back his ring from Kyle, but realized that he would never again be Green Lantern. Instead, he absorbed Ganthet, the last Guardian of the Universe, and went on a quest to "make things right." After getting revenge against the Cyborg, who was the architect of the destruction of Coast City, Hal was asked by Kyle to help the superheroes beat the Sun-eater during "the Final Night." After a lot of thought, he decided to help out. After the last attempt by Ferro to save the solar system, Hal sacrificed himself by absorbing the sun-eater and rekindling the sun. His last words were: "In brightest day, in darkest night, no evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evil's might, BEWARE MY POWER...." A funeral will be held for him in Green Lantern #81.
