Lingerie and Hosiery
I *love* shopping for lingerie. There's just something about
going into Victoria's Secret or the lingerie department of a large department
store. Wherever you look, there are tables stacked with the prettiest panties
and racks of lacy bras all around. You are surrounded by silk nightgowns
and satin robes. I could happily spend hours {and much, much money
*giggle*} shopping for lingerie. These are a few of the places I like to
go to.
Victoria's Secret - One of the Big Two. I think there is one located in every shopping mall in the world. Actually, I really don't buy all that much here. They have pretty lingerie, but their prices are a little steep for my usual budget. One of my favorite items here is their silk string bikini, trimmed with beautiful lace. {Why do I like these panties? Hint: check the name of my site.} These panties come in two styles, thong and full back. The full back panties are comfortable for all-day wear. I've never bought a bra or other lingerie here, but I know they do occasionally have some good sales. The salespeople are almost always helpful and friendly {even when I'm positive they know I am buying for myself and not my girlfriend.} Frederick's of Hollywood - The other of the Big Two. Also located in thousands of malls. Most of the mall stores don't have as good a selection as Victoria's Secret, but you can often find some very nice things here. Every so often, {maybe twice a year?} they have a sale on all their bras. The last time I was in one of their stores, I bought the *c*u*t*e*s*t* pink lace bra and panty set on sale. Just what I'd been looking for. As an extra bonus, the bra can convert to a strapless. They also have a nice selection of garter belts and stockings. Their salespeople are also usually friendly and helpful. {Diana K. Reed left a note in my guestbook that this is also a good place to buy shoes through their catalog. Thanks Diana! I haven't seen shoes in the mall stores, but does anyone know if the main store in Hollywood carries them?} Department Stores {Penney's, Macys, etc.} - This is where I usually buy my lingerie. These stores normally have a great selection and much better prices. Only on very rare occasions have I gotten any strange looks from the salespeople when I've been shopping. If you are embarrassed to shop for lingerie, and live in a large town, you can always go to a mall far away from where you live and usually not have to worry about running into one of the neighbors. {Another benefit of department stores is that you can pay for your purchases in that department, as opposed to K-Mart or other discount stores where everyone pays for the purchases up front. That's just a little too embarrassing for me, to be standing in line with my hands full of panties while someone in front of me is buying motor oil.} Most department stores carry a couple of brand names that I personally like. My favorite thong panty for everyday wear is made by Gia. This has a stretch lace front with a cotton back. It comes in one-size-fits-all in a variety of colors. Another favorite brand is Silkscreen which makes a very pretty textured silk string bikini trimmed in lace. I'd recommend buying this panty in a smaller size, in order to keep some of the, well, less ladylike portions of your anatomy under control. Most department stores also carry a good selection of hosiery, which I prefer to the brands sold in supermarkets. Fascinations, Tucson, Arizona - This is an "adult superstore". They have two locations, with the nicest one being 7165 East Speedway Blvd, almost out of town. They have a good selection of lingerie and hosiery and a large selection of sale merchandise {I've found Wonderbras there for $14.99}. There may be either a man or a woman at the sales desk. I usually waited to buy anything until when a woman was working. When I told her I was a crossdresser, she suggested a place to buy shoes. Teddy's, Columbus, OH - A lovely place with a great selection of lingerie. A lot of "one size fits all" and various pretties in larger sizes. They also carry leather skirts and dresses, fetish wear and shoes. A very friendly place. As usual, I was shopping in my male personna. I told the girl behind the counter that I wanted to buy one of the leather skirts later when I could afford it and asked if there would be any problem with trying it on when I was ready to buy. She offered to let me try it on then. How could I refuse? We picked out a couple that looked as though they might fit and she pointed me to the dressing room. I found just the skirt I had been wanting. Now I just need to save up my pennies to get it. Then, I spent another fifteen minutes trying on shoes. If you are anywhere near Central Ohio {that is to say, anywhere east of the Mississippi} you should stop in. Snow's Erotic Apparel, San Diego -- a great store full of, well, erotic apparel. Much of the store features Snow's own very sexy designs. She also does custom work. She told me that if I brought in a picture or sketch of what I wanted, she could make it for me. Although she primarily caters to dancers, she is very CD friendly. She didn't mind if I used the dressing rooms. She also carries shoes and a few dresses. She also said that her Web site is almost finished, so I'll add it to my links when it's up. In the meantime, if you visit San Diego on vacation, Snow's is a must-see. Amor Lingerie, San Diego -- My newest favorite place to shop in. Jessica is a real sweetheart. She's created a fabulous boutique with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Not to mention that she's filled it with all of my favorite things! Bras, thongs, g-strings, camisoles...oh, my. On my first visit, she spent a long time helping me pick out the sexiest bra and panty set, and didn't blink an eye when she found out it was for me. While she was ringing up my purchase, she said she didn't mind men buying lingerie for themselves, and that I should tell my friends. Okay, girlfriends, now you know. When you come to San Diego, you now have no excuse not to buy pretty new lingerie. Just save one of the pink corsets for me. I saw them first and I'm saving my pennies to get one! I know many towns have lingerie specialty stores other than Victoria's
Secret and Frederick's of Hollywood. I've haven't been in to any yet, although
I plan to.
My Girlfriends recommend:Sensually Yours , Honolulu, HI -- Anya sent me a fe-mail about this shop Located on Nimitz Highway. Has a large selection of lingerie. Has designer labels (Fellina, etc). Decent sale rack. Also has a good selection in extra-large. Kind of pricey, but everything in the islands are pricier than on the Mainland. Thanks, Anya!Sally Ann's Corset Shop, Chicago, IL -- Robin Schaum sent me a fe-mail about this shop. She said --I have found that there is a nice small shop in Chicago which caters to male and female clients. I went with my wife one day to buy a corset. I went as my male self. The lady who waited on me was as nice as could be. She showed me how to properly put on and tighten the corset. Afterwards, I bought in some clothes and changed to my femme self. My wife took pictures, including one with the saleslady. I plan on going back soon and purchasing more lingerie. This time I hope to go back enfemme. You can find more particulars on the shop on the Chicago Triess website. Thanks, Robin! I also added a link to Sally Ann's Web Site on my links page. Christine's Lingerie, Tampa Florida -- Bobbie Lee left a note in my guest book about this shop. She said - You can find lingerie and other unique related lingerie here. It is a comfortable place for CD/TV/TS to shop. Thanks, Bobbie! The Underwoman, Colts Neck, NJ -- Marybeth left a note in my guestbook about this shop. She says -- For lingerie, nowhere beats it. The lady who owns the store even advertised in an article in the paper a few years ago that males shopping for themselves are most welcome, and treated with the respect that any other customer gets, and that she knows how nervous we can be the first time or two. Wow! That's the kind of service I'm looking for! If ever I get to New Jersey, I'll be stopping and shopping here. Thanks, Marybeth! Treva's at Villa Itallia Mall, Lakewood, CO -- Kymberly sent me a fe-mail about this shop. She says -- Ask for Vikki. They sell mostly bra's and teddies, but they are there to help... Thanks, Kymberly! Another good reason to go back to Colorado for a visit Camille's, Albuquerque, NM -- In additon to contributions to the Dresses and Makeup pages, Vicki Anne also has some suggestions on where to buy lingerie in Albuquerque. She says Camille's has Lingerie & Foundations, including Breast Prosthesis, and will do fittings in the store during slow periods; call for best times. She also recommends Ample Boutique (sizes 14 and up) and Midnight Lace which sells Lingerie & Breast Prosthesis. Thanks, Vicki Anne. Secrets Boutique, Sunrise, FL -- Amy sent a fe-mail about this shop. She says its THE only place to shop in South Florida. They are located near Ft. Lauderday. They have everything, and they are geared especially for crossdressers. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff (of two--a married couple) who have dressing rooms that men are encouraged to use! Tell Stacey that Amy sent you! Thanks, Amy. I just *love* places that encourage men to use the dressing room. If you live in the cold country, this is yet another good reason to visit Florida this winter. And, I've added a link to their web site on my links page. Update -- I just got an fe-mail from Stacy, the owner of the shop, and she is the sweetest girl! She truly wants to help the TG community in South Florida and throughout the world. I am just dying to go to this shop!! Stacy also tells me that she has a great seamstress who can make just about anything. If you can't get here either, please visit her shop on the net from my links page. Expressions of Deborah, Kansas City, MO-- Becky left a note in my guestbook saying this is one of the best places to shop in Kansas City. She says This store is a lingerie and adult product store. They have a large selection of shoes, lingerie, bikinis, tight dresses and fetish clothing (corsets, leather skirts, latex clothes, platform heel shoes). Most of there clothing is good quality and designed for exotic dancers. About thirty percent of there customers are crossdressers though. They are very open minded and it is in a discreet location. My goodness. Something for eveyone, and a lot that I want. I've been looking for a bikini this summer. I just wish I could go pick it up now! Thanks, Becky! CC's Lingerie, Phoenix, AZ -- Cindy sent a fe-mail with several suggestions on where to shop in the Phoenix area. About this shop, she says The guy sells everything from bras and breastforms to padded girdles and corsets. The quality is excellent, and the prices are good for what you get. He is definately TG friendly, and will allow you to try things on, and will even help with fitting. Very friendly and helpful. There are two or three stores in the area, and he is listed in the phone book. Thanks, Cindy! Naughty But Nice Lingerie, Chandler, AZ -- This is another contribution in the fe-mail from Cindy. She says this shop does not currently have a very large selection, but the owner is looking for a location to open a shop which will cater specifically to CD/TG clients. She intends to have everything the CD/TG needs, including a makeover and nail service. I will let you know as soon as it opens. Thanks again, Cindy. Wow! If I say that Phoenix is the hot spot for cd's will you forgive me? I'll be anxiously awaiting for her new shop to open. After all, I may get to Phoenix again soon. Intimate Hours, Madison WI -- Heather sent me a fe'mail about this shop. She says -- For lingerie in Madison, I don't think you can beat Intimate Hours. They have 2 stores, one on the East side and one on the West. My experience has shown that the East side can't be beat. Cindy is the owner and does a great job making a person feel comfortable in whatever they want to be. She has private dressing rooms (curtains) and if you are going to refill a lingerie drawer she will schedule something after hours. Heather also says A Womans Tough in the Good Luck Gateway Mall downtown is another shop in Madison (smaller selection) but only caters to the TV/TS/ BI/Gay community. These are wonderful places for lingerie. Thanks, Heather! They sound like great places, with fantastic customer service. When I get to Madison, I will be sure to stop in. DreamDresser, Georgetown (Washington DC) -- Dani sent me a fe'mail about this shop. She says When I told them I was buying for me they didn't even blink and thoroughly took care of me. From Breast forms to wigs, lingerie, and heels they have it all. Thanks, Dani! DreamDresser sounds like one of my dreams come true. I hope to shop there someday. Lindsay's Lace, Fredericksburg, Virginia-- Dottie (the owner of this lovely shop) sent me a fe'mail saying that Lindsay's offers really sexy lingerie, that is not only beautiful, and affordable but comfortable. We offer adult items of all types, leather, and toys as well. We offer plus sizes, wedding gown cleaning and everything to "turn that FLICKER INTO A FLAME" Thanks, Dottie. You have the kind of shop I can happily spend all day (or all week!) in. Plus, I *love* the very prominently featured statement on their web site -- TG FRIENDLY. I've also added a link to the site on the links page. Sun's Leather and Lace, Louisville, KY -- Elisha sent me a fe'mail saying that Sun's provides a very understanding atmosphere. The majority of their clients are of the female dancer variety, but the store owner/operator is willing to let *anyone* try on almost any of the clothes (G-Strings are the exception: you try, you buy). They also have shoes up to size 13 in the exotic dancer and dominamatrix catagories, and yes, you can try those on, too. The dresses are almost all on the skimpy/remove quickly line of dancers, but a few are nice. Thanks, Elisha. I can tell that I would just *love* this shop. I've always wanted to be a dancer. I may not have the moves, but at least I can wear the wardrobe!
