It's official: a giant shopping trolley filled with huge shopping items parked opposite a supermarket about 10km north of Beirut has been recognized by the Guinness World Records as the largest of its kind.
Measuring 16m tall, 16.5m long and 6m wide, the commercially-flavored landmark in the coastal town of Antelias was designed to be advertisement for Spinneys supermarket, which informed the Guinness Book of World Record around six months ago.
“One day, we had the idea of sending the details of this trolley to the Guinness book of world record,” said Zena Sara, communication manager at Spinneys. “They seemed interested and asked for a video tape that showed the trolley, as well as the testimony of two witnesses not related to Spinney,” said Sara.
“Now we’re in their books,” she added.
This latest listing for Lebanon in the world’s most famous record book comes on the heels of last week’s recognition in the Metn by Guinness of the world’s largest ever tabbouleh dish, which weighed in at 1,500kg.
