Finished project

Download these presets. Extract the presets to your Presets directory and the .bmp to your Textures directory.

Draw out the shape Create a new image and make the initial selection.

File-> New. Make the image somewhat larger than you want the finished tag. Here, I've made it 300 x 200 pixels.

Click on the preset shape tool Preset Shape tool, set the tool to Vector. Set your background swatch color to something paper-y colored. Here I've used #F7E8C8. Set the foreground swatch to null. Choose the rectangle shape and draw out a rectangle. Objects-> Align-> Center in Canvas. Selections-> From Vector Object. Selections-> Load/Save Selection-> Save Selection to Alpha Channel. In the layer control palette right click on the vector layer and choose Convert to Raster Layer.

See a screen capture of this step.
Texture and spattering Add texture and distress to the paper.

Leaving the selection still active, Effects-> Texture Effects-> Texture. Load the amc_PaperLined preset and apply it. Layers-> New Raster Layer. Click on the paintbrush tool Paintbrush tool and load the amc_spatter preset. Set the foreground color swatch to a darker color than the tag. Here I've used #BD8020. Drag the brush around to spatter.

Finished distressing Finish distressing.

Adjust->Blur-> Gaussian Blur. Set the Radius to 14. Layers-> New Raster Layer. Reset your paintbrush to default. Set the Density to 5. Choose another dark color, here I've used #96390B. Brush around the edges of the selection. Adjust-> Blur-> Gaussian Blur, set the radius to 6. In the layer control palette, lower the opacity of this layer. Here I've set it to 70%.

See a screen capture of this step.
Drop shadow Add a drop shadow.

Layers-> New Raster Layer. In the layer control palette, drag this layer so that it is just above the background. Effects-> 3D Effects-> Drop Shadow. Set the color to black. The rest is personal preference, here I've used offsets of 1 and a blur of 4. Leave the opacity at 100%. In the layer control palette, adjust the opacity of the layer to suit.

Finished project Add text.

Layers-> New Vector Layer. In the layer control palette, drag this layer to the top of the stack.

Click on the text tool Text Tool. Set the background color swatch to black and the foreground color swatch to null. Choose fonts for your tag. You will need a font that includes an extended character set to include things like accent mark, brackets and the dot between syllables. Most freeware fonts do not incude an extended character set. Before choosing a font, check it in Character Map (Start-> Programs-> Accessories-> System Tools-> Character Map) to see if the needed characters are included. The second font will be just text, so it can be just about any font you have installed. You can use any dictionary to help you put in accent marks, syllable breaks and to create the definition. The fonts I've used here are Garamond and Coronet. Use the alignment options under Objects-> Align to get your text perfectly aligned. Reduce the opacity of this layer to about 65%.
