Marbling Toolkit

Finished project
Download files and create a new image.

Download my Marbling toolkt (981 KB). Unzip and extract the brush to your Presets directory and the Deformation Maps to your Deformation Maps directory. Create a new image 250 pixels wide by 250 pixels high, 24 bit.

Initial stone pattern Cover the image using the Marbling brush.

Set your foreground and background swatches to two different but compatible colors. Here I've used #A32392 and #FF8105. Click on the Brush toolBrush Tool. In the Brush tool preset drop down, choose the amc_MarblingStone1.1 preset. Paint with the brush to completely cover the image.

See a screen capture of this step.
Get-gel Warp the image.

Click on the Mesh Warp toolMesh Warp tool. Click on the Open Deformation Map icon and load amc_getgel. Click on the Appy buttonApply button.

See a screen capture of this step.
Non-pariel Load another Deformation Map.

Repeat the above step, but this time load the amc_nonpariel deformation map.

Finished project Make the image seamless for use as a tile.

Crop the image slightly to get rid of the ragged edges. Effects->Image Effects->Seamless Tiling. The default settings worked for this image, you may need to play with the settings to get a tile that you like.

Other traditional patterns.

There are a few other deformation maps included in the zip to create traditional marbling patterns with. To create a Cascade pattern, first load the amc_getgel and then amc_cascade. To create a Chevron, load amc_getgel, amc_cascade and amc_chevron, in that order.
