The Agony of Reason
There is no silence that etches so sharply
like loneliness that searches for the meaning of the light.
While dark storms ravage your inner senses,
leaving you bare within,
I can only absorb your agony in the shadows.
You inch your way up a cobweb staircase
to the heavens while I dig my hands in solid earth
to find my human heart.
The roads intertwine for people like you and I,
both looking for familiarity in the hands of a bottle.
But in our midst abides a line,
not seen by curious eyes, that chooses
to divide reason from the frailties of our souls.
