The State of Tennessee-Williamson County SS

To Any authorized Minister of the Gospel, having the care of souls, or to any Justice of the Peace for said County
These presents are to authorize you, or either of you, to solemnize the rites of matrimony between John Raney and Mary Giles, provided always that the said Mary Giles be an actual resident in the aforesaid county of Williamson. And, do you endorse hereon the day on which you shall solemnize the rites of matrimony between the parties mentioned herein, sign your name thereto, and return these presents to the Clerk of the County court of pleas and Quarter sessions for the county of Williamson, within six months after such solemnization. Given at the clerks office in Fraklin, this 16th day of March A.D. 1833 and of the Independence of the United States the fifty seventh Thos Harden (?) Clerk of Williamson County Court.

Bond

Know all men that we John Raney and Claburn Johnson all of the county of Williamson in the state of Tennessee are held and firmly bound unto William Carroll, Esquire, Governor of the state of Tennessee, for the time being and his successors the sum of Twelve hundred and fifty Dollars; which payment well and truly made we bind ourselves, our and each of our heirs, executors, and administrators and each and every of us and them jointly and severally, firmly by these presents -- Witness, our hands and seals this 16th day of March A.D. 1833.
The condition of this obligation is such that wherease the above bounded John Raney hath this day prayed and obtained from the Clerk of Williamson County Court, a license to marry Mary Giles, a resident of the County of Williamson. Now, if there is no lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage between the said John and Mary then this obligation to be void, else to be and remain in full force and virtue according to the true intent and meaning thereof.
