Dear Listers,
I have been struggling with the David Dye question for a while now. First of
all, I am Randall Milton Dye, David would be my GG Grandfather. Wesley Milton
would be my G Grandfather. Harry Milton was my Grandfather. Robert Harry Dye
IS my Father. This is what I found on a recent trip. I was in Marietta 2
weeks ago for 3 days on a quick research trip, and I hope I can clear this up
somewhat but I still have my doubts about this and am searching for
confirmation. Here we go. According to the Marriage records in Marietta,
David JENKINS Dye was born 1817. He married Martha Farnsworth on 12-25-1845
in Washington Co. His father was Ezekial who married Phoebe A. Davis (School
Teacher) 4-13-1815 in Washington Co. Oh. She was born in NY, possibly
Lancaster. She is the daughter of Nathan Davis and Amy JENKINS. This Jenkins
last name is helping me some. I have been wondering where this came from. Now
I know. Other Children are: Mary, Amy E., Patience, John, Nancy, Sophia
Amelia, and Jonathan L. Now father back. Ezekiel's father was John Dye who
married a Caywood, John's father was John Dye who married an Applegate, his
father was John Laurens Duyts who married Ann Brown. I still have quite a bit
of info that, to be perfectly honest with you all, I just haven't sorted thru
yet. I hope this helps. If you have any questions or corrections (especially
corrections) please let me know. Have a great evening and Happy Hunting. Randy

Hi April,

Glad to get your e-mail. I think we have a connection.

Jeremiah Dobbs, my ggg grandfather, was born approx. 1770-75, married
the daughter of John Pierson of Abbeville, S.C. approx. 1790-95, lived
on Hunters creek in Franklin Co. Ga. between 1810-1815, moved to Bedford
Co. Tenn. before 1820 and lived on Sinking Creek with his family until
his death around 1843-45. Jeremiah's daughter Nancy married John
Harrison.

My wife, Anne, got me interested in family history about eight years
ago. Since that time we've made one trip to the Bedford County
Courthouse and the library in Shelbyville, Tennessee and also a trip to
the state library in Nashville.

Here are some references on John and Tyre Harrison we compiled after our
trips to Tennessee::

On 1822, March 12 Jeremiah Dobbs paid John Dobbs $250 dollars for 55
acres of land on big Sinking Creek a south branch of the Duck River in
Bedford County, Tennessee. The indenture was signed by John Dobbs and
witnessed by John Harrison and Jane Pearson. REF : Bedford County Deed
Book Q, Pages 136 & 137. This 55 acres was part of 105 acres granted by
the State of Tennessee to Daniel Berrycroft by Grant No. 14813 dated
1820, July 28 and conveyed to John Dobbs by Daniel Berrycroft on 1821,
July 20 for $500 dollars. REF : Bedford County Deed Book O, Pages 394 &
395.

On 1825, May 2 James Pearson paid Barzillia Harrison $65 dollars for 10
acres of land on the east side of Sinking Creek a south branch of the
Duck River in Bedford County, Tennessee. The indenture was signed by B.
Harrison and witnessed by John Dobbs and John Harrison. This 10 acres
was granted by the State of Tennessee to Barzillia Harrison by Grant No.
21069 dated 1824, January (?) 8. REF : Bedford County Deed Book U, Pages
304 & 305. (COMPILER'S NOTE: The James Pearson in this indenture was a
neighbor of Jeremiah Dobbs on Hunters Creek in Franklin County ,
Georgia and a close relative of Jeremiah's wife. )

On 1831, December 29 Jeremiah Dobbs paid John Dobbs valuable
consideration for 40 acres of land on Sinking Creek in Bedford County,
Tennessee. The indenture was signed by John Dobbs and witnessed by Tyre
Harrison and John P. Pearson. REF : Bedford County Deed Book CC, Page
218. This is the same 40 acres of land that John Dobbs bought from
Robert Hamble for valuable consideration on 1823, November 22.

On 1846, March 6 Jeremiah Dobbs was noted in a Bedford County deed as
being deceased. John Harrison and wife Nancy D. of Bedford County,
Tennessee sold to James M. Neely of Bedford County, Tennessee all their
right, title, claim and interest in 105 acres of land descended to them
by Jeremiah Dobbs. The land was in Bedford County, Tennessee and was
bounded by the west bank of Sinking Creek. REF : Bedford County Deed
Book OO, Page 307.

In 1850 John Harrison, was enumerated in the United States Census in
Bedford County, Tennessee on pg 376 as a head of household with his age
being 56 and his birthplace being South Carolina. Living with him were
his wife Nancy Dobbs Harrison ( age 48, born in SC. ) and their children
James J. ( age 20 ), Melissa J. ( age 18 ), Emeline D. ( age 16 ) John
( age 14 ),Richard A. ( age 12 ), Tyra M. ( age 9 ) and Sarah Ann ( age
6 ) .

Its interesting you mentioned Nancy Thorn. Here's a reference we haven't
been able to figure out yet:

On 1843, April 8 Jeremiah Dobbs and G. T. Neely were granted property
and estate in a deed in trust by Patsy Thorn who was the guardian of the
minor heirs of her husband William Thorn deceased. Land granted was 85
acres on which Patsy resided. The 85 acres was bounded by Henry Pickle
and Moses Aaron. Also mentioned was her lifetime dower and one child's
part of 115 acres ( in two tracts ). One childs part of the land was
gifted by Polly Thorn to her stepmother Patsy Thorn and registered in
Bedford County Deed Book GG on 1837, September 8. REF : Bedford County
Deed Book MM, Page 325.

What do you think of all this?

Joe and Anne Dobbs

Here are some references on John and Tyre Harrison we compiled after our
trips to Tennessee::

According to Tennessee Cousins, this family is connected although I cannot figure out how....

"James Harris, an uncle of Tyree Rhodes and brother of his mother Sarah Harrison had a daughter Sarah Harris, first cousin of Tyrie Rhodes who married James Harrison, who moved to S.C. and had a son named Tyree Harrison."
