Obituary of Elias D. Moore

The Hon. Elias Moore died at his
residence on Carlisle Place at 9
o'clock Saturday morning. He had
been in failing health for a year, and
more recently had suffered from
neuritis. He had gone south six
months ago for his health but the
change failed to benefit him. After
his return, on May 14, he seemed
to rally, but it was only temporary.
Elias Moore was born in Ross
County, June 30, 1843, the son of
Elias and Susan Rutter Moore. He
was a graduate o f Oberlin College.
When he grew to young manhood he
enlisted in Co. A 114 O.V.I., and
served gallantly throughout 3 years
of the war, as a sergeant in Co. A.
He was twice married, the first time
to Mattie Holman, May 9 1872,
who died after two years. To this
union was born one child, who died
in infancy. His second wife was
Mrs. Mary Ford, whom he married
Dec. 23 1891, and who survives him.
There were no children, the nearest
relatives being his two nieces, Mrs.
Calland Thompson of Linclon, Neb.,
Mrs. Ella Renick, of Circleville, and
four nephews, Guy Moore of Colum-
bus, W A. Birdsall of Chadron, Neb.,
George Moore of Weston, West
Virginia, and John Moore of Ridge-
way.
Mr. Moore was a member of Max-
well Post G. A. R. of Kingston, and
of the B. P. O. E. He was a consist-
ent member of Walnut Street M. E.
church. In politics he was a Re-
publican and served as State Repre
sentative from this county for one
term, 1890 and 1891.
He was a kindly, courteous pleas-
ant man, well educated and ex-
tremely interesting as a conversa-
tionalist. He was greatly liked by
all who knew him. He was a good
man and citizen. With a high ethi-
cal standard which he lived up to.
The funeral services will be con-
ducted at the residence, Tuesday at
2 p.m. by Rev. C. P. Hargraves. The
body will be taken to Kingston on
Wednesday, for burial in Mt. Pleas-
ant cemetery.
