Camp Marietta Ohio

Dear Pa,
I received your very welcome letter this morning. I was glad to hear from you. I am well at present, only I was thrown across a box and a boy on top of me and it hurt my back. Nothing serious I hope. You may take it for granted that I am well when I say nothing about my health.
I was sorry to hear of Mother getting the white wash in her eye. I hope it will soon get well. I have not heard from Sis since I came back, only by your letter this morning.
Johny got a letter from Jerome since we came home. He has been in the hospital at Rolla, Missouri for six weeks and says he expects to stay there that much longer, He also got a letter from his Mother. There was some soldiers beat his father with a club, because they thought he told their officers that an old woman was selling them whiskey.
Some of the boys went to town last night and brought out a Newfoundland pup. It is about four months old. The boys are training him, he is a very apt scholar.
It is the report now that we leave here soon. I do not know whether it is reliable or not.
We have no droll any since we came back. It has been raining ever since Sunday. It is getting as muddy as a hog pen here. I do not think of anything else. The boys are all well. Give my love to all.
I remain your son as ever,
Elias Moore
