114th O.V.I.
Old Soldiers Meeting Here in Annual Reunion
The 22nd annual reunion of the 114th O.V.I. convened in this city Tuesday morning at the G.A.R. hall on Main street at 9 o'clock. The morning hours were given over to the registration of visitors. Each train in the morning brought in a member of the old veterans and their wives who were also in session with them.
This is the second time the reunion has been held in this city, the other reunion being held 13 years ago. At that time there were 113 members present and one of the old veterans remarried Tuesday morning he could easily remember the good time they had while here.
The regiment was mustered in at Camp Circleville on Sept. 10 C.C. Goddard, captain of the 17th Infantry and was mustered out on July 31, 1865, at Houston, Texas, by J. O. Stewart, second lieutenant of the 20th Iowa Infantry.
The regiment passed through a number of engagements and a number of its members fell during the service. Their places were filled up to a great extent by recruits but at the end of the three years' fighting a large hole still remained in their ranks. The 114th was raised in the counties of Pickaway, Fairfield, Perry, Fayette, Vinton and Hocking. Companies A, B, C, and half of K were raised in the first county, and other half of K from this county; G and I from Perry; C and D from Fayette; H from Hocking and F from Vinton.
The companies had the following number of men: A, 101; B, 192; C, 97; D, 90; E, 100; F, 102; G, 98; H, 98; I, 99; K, 101. This, with the field and staff officers, made a total of 1,002 men.
The following attended the reunion: D.R. Saint, Mt. Sterling; Solomon Nisley, Lancaster; Washinton Wyman, Lancaster; P.W. Longstreth, Grotlot; D. Dutton, Junction City; W. M.
