Shadowcraft Tales    |   home        Rats

For those of you who have experienced the unique bond
that occurs once you bring one or more of these small creatures
into your life, no more need be said.
For the rest of you, writers or not, no words can express the
joy they bring into our lives.
Having worked with a wide variety of animals in veterinary
hospitals for 14 years, (Arkanthis here) and having many pets
of my own, I never had a clue what I was missing until a
certain rat came along to make me wish someone had
shared this secret much earlier.

Rats are the most wondrous  friends, more
intelligent and affectionate than can be imagined.
The one great tragedy is that they are so short-lived and
are often claimed from us by respiratory disease and cancer.
If you have a little time to spare and seek companionship
you will find nothing better. Make sure to give them love
and attention and opportunity to interact with you, with at least
an hour a day out of their cage. They can be cage or litter-box
trained. Make the room safe where they will be exploring
by taping up or hiding electrical wires in pipe, and make
sure to leave nothing out that you don't want chewed---
they are natural gnawers.

There are many sites out there to assist with further info,
both medically and pertaining to details of the rodent
personality and types. We will include a few links here.
Most of all we dedicate this page to Trappy the Ratterman,
a much cherished friend who threw wide the door to let us
know of the incredible rat.

And then there was Petey.....

And little Toto...
