Modified By Charlene Beebe 6/8/2000
I'd like to Thank Wilma Becker and Kathleen Rose for their help in this Tutorial. For their hours of proof-reading and being my "guinea gals". Thanks Ladies.
You will need the Alien Skin Xenofex filter to do this tutorial.
You can get a Demo copy Alien Skin at their website:
1.Open an image of your choice. Pick from it two colors, a dark and a light and set as custom colors. Set it aside for now.
2.Background Image...Go to file/new/ Width 450 Height 450.
Background color - transparent, Click OK.
3.Making the envelope...Go to file/new/ Width 250 Height 250
Background color - White, Click OK.
Go to image/plug-ins/Xenofex/stain. - Edge 10 -Irregularity 70.
Pick stain color, OK.
4. Go to the arrow tool, click on the envelope image. Go to Edit/copy. Click on checkered image, go to Edit/paste/as new selection. Move image off the center to the left.
5. Go to image/rotate/ Left - 18 degrees free
6. Go to Image/effects/drop shadow: Color black - Opacity 95
Blur 4 - Vert 4 - Horiz 4 Click OK. Selections/none.
Go to layers/new raster layer.
Now we are going to work with the note image.
7. Highlight your note image. Resize to as close to 250, but under 250. Image/sharpen. *If you pick the larger of the Height or Width and enter just 245, it will resize the smaller number too, and take the guesswork out of this step. This is really important, if it is too large, it won’t release to the 250 x 250 new image.
8. Pick the selection tool (6th), highlight Tools Options Bar: select: rounded rectangle - feather 16
- antialias - checked

9. Pick arrow from tool bar, click on note image go to Edit/Copy.
Go to file/new Width 250 Height 250. Background color: White.
Click on new white image - Image/Paste/as new selection, center on this image. Selection/none.

10. Choose the color you used in the stain from the custom palette. Go to Image/add borders, symmetric - checked, Size 2, Click OK.
Now change the background color to white. Go to Image/add borders symmetric -checked Size 6 Click OK. Go to image/plug-ins/Xenofex/stain. Add lettering or image of your choice, now.
Layer/new raster. Layer/merge all.
11. Go to edit/copy, highlight the checkered image. Go to Edit/Paste/As new selection. Position note card over envelope. You can rotate this to the right if you wish. Add drop shadow. Selections/none
Layers/new raster layer.
Now we are going to make a flap for the envelope.
12. Go to file/new - width 254 - Height 125 - color white. Pick up Draw Tool (19th) under “A”.
Click on first tab of tools options bar: Type - single line, Stroked, Width 3, Anti alias - checked
. Chose the foreground color, a dark color.Draw flap for envelope. From one top corner to 60 and in just a little angle. Stop here. Go to other corner and do the same, Stop at 60, with slight angle. Start at the bottom, and at 120, begin to move to the side to connect to the sideline. Go back and do the other sideline.

*When you get the flap the way you what it, save it, next time you won't have to draw it.
Select the Magic Wand and click inside lines, you should have marching ants now. My magic wand is set: RGB value - 0 Tolerance - 0 Feather
13. Go to Image/Plug-ins/Xenofex 1.0/stain/ Click OK. Add any image you would like to the flap now. Layer/new raster layer/merge/all.
Pick Arrow from tool bar, Click on flap, Edit/Copy.
Click on checkered image. Go to Edit/Paste as new selection. Go to Image/Rotate. Left - 18 degrees free. Click OK. Select the Mover Tool and Move to position over envelope. Go to Image/Drop Shadow, Click OK. Go to Selections/none. Layers/new raster layer.
Back ground: I open a new image 450x450 and flood-fill to color of my choice from the graphic I choose, and texture it with plug-ins/texture/your choice.
Shift/D to duplicate the background. One for step 14. and one for background to save for Scrippy.
14. Highlight checkered image with note card and envelope on it, Go to edit/copy. Highlight new background and edit/new selection. Images/drop shadow. Layers/merge all.
Now I save these two in jpeg, one background and one image.
Now you ready to make stationery. Have Fun.
In the note card below, I used new image 600x450, to copy note card to, and used Image/plug-ins/eyecandy/perspective shadow. Let you imagination flow and you will make more and more cards.
