Part 8 (FY/YYH/FoR)

“W...what did you say!?” The face of Urameshi Yusuke had become deathly pale, and Kazuma Kuwabara noticed, with a bit of alarm, that he was shaking heavily. The group had just returned to the Ningenkai a mere few minutes earlier, and they had walked to Kurama’s home, the red haired boy needing to give a fake explanation to Shiori of why he would not be home that night, only to find her waiting with a note that a ‘nice young boy’, as she had called him, had delivered earlier that afternoon.
Kurama had assured her that he would read it while he was out with the others and, after leaving his home, he had quickly opened the letter and told the others what was written. Yusuke was in shock. “Wouldn’t someone have realized that a kidnapping was taking place!?” Yusuke growled with fury. “Damn it, and this is Keiko we’re talking about! She’s class rep...one of the most popular girls in our grade level! How could someone not realize that she had disappeared!?”

“Keiko might have had to stay after school,” Kuwabara reasoned, “and when she was leaving no one would have been around to see the kidnapper take her.” It was a believable explanation...something that the carrot top wasn’t known for coming up with. Yusuke’s fists clenched with rage. This was NOT happening! How could Keiko have been taken!? He hadn’t even sensed anything was wrong from Koenma’s palace! Yesterday, she had been slapping him and calling him an idiot as always!

Hiei, from where he was perched on a branch above their heads, opened his eyes slowly and turned the crimson globes towards Kurama. “Kitsune, read the note again,” He requested in his normal calm voice, but Kurama could tell by the narrowness of his eyes that this matter had peaked his interest.

“To whom it may concern,” Kurama began, holding the creased white paper in front of him, “Apparently, you idiots were too busy this afternoon to realize that your friend Keiko now belongs to me. However, since I am such a merciful person I will offer you a chance to get her back. Come to the abandoned home at the corner of Fuyu and Yama Streets tonight at eight o’clock. Our team will be waiting to challenge you for her. See you soon.” He sighed and rubbed his temple as he read off the name. “Hanabishi Recca of the Hokage Ninja.”

“Che. Do they know who we are?” Kuwabara mumbled, his eyes dark as Kurama folded the letter once again and stuck it in his pocket. “If they want a fight then they’re going to get one, damn it!”

“Yurusenai.” The others looked at Yusuke who had closed his eyes still trembling fiercely with rage. “Hearing about this group from Koenma, I was kinda intrigued. If all they had committed was a minor offense then I would have enjoyed toying with them...see how good this elemental power shit really was...but this is unforgivable. Tonight, I’ll show no mercy.” He pumped a fist in the air, eyes wild. “This is unforgivable!!!”

Kuwabara’s frown deepened as he clenched his fists, itching for the chance to fight. Kurama looked up at Hiei and the two nodded. Tonight, they would get Keiko back even if they had to kill all of the Hokage in order to do it.

Hanabishi Recca stuffed his hands into the pockets of his blue jeans with a sigh, rolling his shoulder as he felt the strap of his duffel bag begin to slip. They had left the hotel outside of the Killers Dome an hour earlier and taken the bus which had left them just a few blocks away from his home. The group had decided after following Kirisawa Fuuko back into the hotel that nothing was going to be accomplished while they stayed there. It made more sense to return home and then figure out a plan of action.

He raised his head and gazed over his shoulder at Ishijima Domon who, being the strongest physically of the Hokage, had been designated to drag Mikagami Tokiya along with them. They had discovered, after his suicidal outburst, that he was unwilling to move from his spot outside of the hotel. Domon had been forced to carry him back inside so that they could get their things without leaving him alone and susceptible outdoors. At least now he was walking...Domon had a hand clamped around Mikagami’s wrists and Recca realized after watching the two for a few minutes that he would gently tug them if Mikagami stopped walking.

Eyes lowered, Mikagami looked like a prisoner about to face a death sentence. No, Recca argued mentally, if Mikagami had to face death he would do it with his head held high and have no regrets. Recca returned his attention to the sidewalk in front of him. This whole situation was absolutely ridiculous! How had Yanagi managed to be taken from the hotel room without one of them noticing!? Recca considered himself to be a rather light sleeper. Why hadn’t he heard anyone break into the locked room? Why hadn’t he heard Hime calling for help? Why, with the windows wide open, didn’t he hear any struggle between Mikagami and his attacker outside?? None of this made any sense. They had just won a tournament that had nearly cost them their lives! Why was this happening now?

“Oi, Recca,” Fuuko muttered, breaking Recca from his thoughts, “why is your dad sitting outside of your house like that?” Recca turned to her, confused, before gazing at his home down the street. Sure enough, Hanabishi Shigeo was sitting on the ground a few feet from the door of the house reading a letter of some kind.

“I have no clue,” Recca responded in a puzzled tone, eyes focused on the man that had raised him as a son. There was something in his father’s eyes...something telling him that they were returning home to even more trouble. <Great...I don’t know if we can handle any more problems than we already have...>

Kaoru Koganei stared at the man that he assumed to be Mr. Hanabishi, faced Recca whose eyes were focused on his father, turned towards Mikagami and noted that he had not reacted at all to the present situation, his sky blue eyes remaining on the sidewalk, before looking at Mr. Hanabishi again. First Yanagi was taken, then Mikagami tried to kill himself, and now there was something wrong at the Hanabishi home. Could things get any worse? <Baka> He mumbled inwardly, <Those are famous last words...> That was when something large and hard smashed against his back sending him plummeting to the ground before he had time to react.

The rest of the Hokage turned just in time to avoid being hit by the black-haired man running past at an alarming speed. He turned back momentarily and waved. “Sumimasen, I’m in a real hurry.” Without another word he continued on and, at his speed, he had rounded the corner before anyone could blink.

“Daijoubu desu ka?” Kagero asked gently as she bent down and offered her hand to Koganei, all the while keeping her face emotionless. However, there were a million thoughts rushing through her head. The young man who had just run by...as he had passed she had been overwhelmed by his amazing aura. Could he be an elemental weapon master? No...it was something else. Something, she feared, that had far greater power than an elemental weapon ever could.

Koganei took her hand and allowed himself to be pulled up before brushing himself off. Eyes narrowed, he stuck his tongue out in the direction the stranger had disappeared from. “Watch where you’re going, Yarou!!!!” Kagero skimmed him briefly with her eyes, relieved to see that he hadn’t been injured, before looking over the others.

Recca’s attention was still focused on Shigeo as Fuuko wondered allowed what he was reading. Domon, Kondo, and Ganko were content talking about stupid idiots who didn’t watch where they were going. Her eyes widened. Mikagami’s head was raised for the first time in an hour, and she noted, with some surprise, that his narrowed eyes were focused on the corner where the stranger had turned. <He felt that man’s power even through the effects of the Kanashi Omou?>

“Oyaji!!” Recca called, seeing that his father had become aware of their presence and was coming to meet them. “Oi, what were you doin’ outside the house?” He knew that he didn’t want to know the answer to his question, but not asking would only delay the inevitable news they would receive. His father never looked serious...not like he was now...unless something was really wrong.

Shigeo reached the group, his laid back clothing and bandanna in place, and stepped right in front of his son. “A letter came for you while you were away, Recca. It wasn’t from the mailman. Some kid in a green high school uniform brought it. I was a bit curious so I read what it said...”

He wordlessly handed the note to Recca who slowly unfolded it and began to read. “To whom it may concern...Apparently you and the rest of the idiots of the modern Hokage were sleeping too heavily to realize that I was kidnapping your precious little Yanagi-chan. However, I know what it’s like to make mistakes so I’m giving you another chance. Come to the abandoned home on the corner of Fuyu and Yama Streets at eight o’clock. Bring the boy who I had the pleasure of applying the Kanashi Omou to this morning. I just might be in the mood to make a deal for your healer’s life. See you soon...Urameshi Yusuke of the Urameshi Team.”

Recca didn’t notice that he had been clenching the paper until his nails ripped through it. Eyes shut, he felt a chill go down his spine. What the HELL was going on!? Not only did this bastard Urameshi take his hime and make Mikagami almost kill himself, but now he wanted them to choose which person was more important!? Asshole...fucking ASSHOLE!!!! Who the hell did this Urameshi Yusuke think he was!? More importantly, who the hell WAS Urameshi Yusuke in the first place!?

“Recca-niichan...” Koganei murmured quietly as he gazed up at the Flame Master. “Anou...we aren’t really going to give that bastard Mikagami no niichan, are we?” Recca didn’t turn to acknowledge the younger teen nor did he offer an response to his question. There wasn’t anything to say. He didn’t know...on one hand, they couldn’t just give this guy Mikagami...but was it possible to get Yanagi back another way??

Fuuko gazed at Recca and could practically feel the conflicting emotions radiating off of him. It was no secret that he and Mikagami had gained a considerable amount of respect for each other after their fight against Miki and Neon at the end of the Ura Buto Satsujin’s third round. However, he couldn’t hide the fact that, despite his constant denial, he truly loved Yanagi.

Fuuko’s fighting instincts were screaming for them to just bust into the house at eight, get Yanagi, and leave, but what if they couldn’t? What if she was in a life or death situation and they couldn’t save her without offering Mikagami in return?

What the hell did Urameshi Yusuke want with Mikagami anyway? While the Hyomon Ken Master was a respectable martial artist without a weapon, his true power came from the Ensui. If Urameshi had wanted the Ensui then he would have taken it after attacking Mikagami that morning! Besides, what good was Mikagami in the state he was in? <Well, this guy has to have the antidote to the Kanashi Omou. It IS his elemental weapon after all,> She reminded herself with a sigh.

“I don’t know what this is all about so I won’t try to guess,” Shigeo told them, scratching the back of his head with puzzlement. Seeing Recca reluctantly open his eyes, Shigeo met them with an intense stare of his own. “However, I do know that you aren’t going to accomplish anything by standing outside in silence. Everyone come inside, I’ll heat up some food, and you can explain what is going on to me. It’s almost one o’clock right now. You still have seven hours to make a decision.”

Recca gazed at him for a brief moment before nodding wearily in agreement. Slowly, he and the rest of the Hokage followed Shigeo into his home all the while wondering whether they were going to give up one friend for another or if there was possibly some other way...

“She was WHAT!?”

Sukunami Taka rubbed his temples with frustration as Yuuki Keisuke paced around the dorm room he shared with Tetsuya restlessly. As he had expected, Miaka’s brother had not taken the news of her abduction well. In fact, he had taken it horribly. Taka clasped his hands together and forced out, “Miaka was taken by a big green bug. I had left the apartment because I was moving some of her things upstairs...I-I didn’t know anything was wrong until I walked into the bedroom.” He gazed at the pair sitting in chairs on the other side of the room. “You believe me, don’t you?”

“Why wouldn’t we?” Hongo Yui whispered softly as she ran a hand through her blond hair which was now shoulder length. After Tenkou she had assumed that everything was over. She and Miaka would never have to worry about the supernatural again. Why did this have to happen!? “We have to get Miaka back.”

Tetsuya buried his face in his hands, rubbing his eyes wearily. “Yare yare...nothing’s ever quiet around here. Oi, Taka, did the bug tell you its name?”

Keisuke was on top of him in an instant. “Baka Yarou, it was a damn BUG! Why the hell would it have given Taka its name!? What makes you think it even has a name if its a bug!? Mattaku...be serious!”

Snorting, Tetsuya folded his arms over his chest. “I am being serious, Ahou! Taka said the bug talked. If it talked, why couldn’t it have given him its name!?” Keisuke glared at him for a moment longer before turning away and deciding not to pursue the argument. After all, they had more important things to worry about. “Taka, did you call the police?”

“What would be the point?” Taka asked, a wry grin on his face. “Seriously, how many police squads do you think would go looking for some giant green insect just because I told them it stole my girlfriend? Besides, if they did happen to believe me, they don’t have the resources needed to track a creature like that.”

“Neither do we,” Keisuke added, his expression glum as he plopped onto the floor next to Tetsuya’s chair. “You still have Tamahome’s power, but no matter how much the three of us want to help, what can we do?”

Yui gazed at him, let her mind ponder this question for a moment, and jumped to her feet making a break for the door. Hearing Tetsuya question where she was going, Yui turned around, a wide smile on her face. “Get your car ready. We have to go to my house.”

“Doshite?” Keisuke questioned, his curiosity rising. Whenever Yui got this excited it meant that she had an idea. He let himself mentally admit that if she had a plan of action that he was eager to hear what it was if it would help get his sister back. “Why are we going there?”

“Why else? The Four Gods Sky and Earth is hidden under my bed,” Yui responded cheerfully. She instantly saw Taka stiffen at this information, and before he could say anything she continued, “Do you know any huge green bugs in this world? Besides, even if Miaka wasn’t dragged into the book, there are people inside it who can help us find her. My connection to the other world is fairly weak now, but I know I have enough power left to bring them here.” Her blue eyes softened as Taka slowly stood to his feet. “They may be the only ones who can assist you, Taka.”

“Tasuki...Chichiri...” He breathed as he took in Yui’s words. She was right. While Taka wanted to believe that he could take on this monster by himself, there was a voice in his head warning him that the bug was not going to be his only opposition. Gazing into Yui’s deep blue eyes, he nodded. “Let’s get going.”

The four quickly left the dorm, climbing into Tetsuya’s car and heading towards Yui’s home in order to retrieve The Four Gods Sky and Earth. In their haste, they were unaware of the creature watching them from the tree overlooking the front wall of the dorm. “How cute,” She purred, blood red lips twitching as she spoke. “The washed up Suzaku seishi, Tamahome, and Seiryuu no Miko are going to call their friends from the other dimension. How fortunate for them that we were planning to do the same thing. Too bad when the other two Suzaku seishi arrive they’ll already be dead...” With these words, she concentrated her youki and vanished from sight returning to a certain home on the corner of Fuyu and Yama Streets where, in a few hours, the master plan for complete domination over the worlds would begin.

::does a happy dance:: I finished chapter 8!! Wai! It took me long enough. Sheesh...Erm, I didn’t get to put as much as I wanted into this chapter because, well, I can only make my e-mails a certain length. Ok...I don’t know Tetsuya’s last name off-hand and it didn’t mention it in that twenty-something episode where he was introduced so I just skipped it. Hopefully I’ll finish chapter 9 soon because that part will be even shorter than this one ::sweatdrop:: Then, chapter eleven...hopefully the beginning of a huge Mikagami torture arc! Wai! Bishounen torture!! It’s the thing that dreams are made of ^_^ Ja, until next time, Minna-san!!!
