Dhumbala (Red Flag) Dance

Numbulwar is a remote Aboriginal community in Arnhem Land. Yilila is a band and dance group which performs Numbulwar traditional music and dance. Dhumbala is a story developed from hundreds of years of trade with the Maccassan ships from Indonesia. Yilila's performance was great stuff with stunning costumes and great music. There was also the opportunity for people of different cultures to get "painted up" and learn some of the dance steps. I had a go.
