Preparing for Corroboree

Beswick is an Aboriginal community and you normally need a permit to visit Beswick Falls but not for this weekend. We arrived in the late afternoon and it was just magical - towering red cliffs, a huge pool and lots of white sand. After all of my Kakadu croc-watching, I even spotted a freshie playing "log floating on water". A few quick photos before a wonderful sunset and then it was time for corroboree preparations as it became dark.

A beautiful sunset and I didn't even have to climb a big hill to see it. As dusk settled around us, the adult corroboree participants started appearing but it took a bit of an effort to round up all of the excited kids. The girls lit masses of floating candles and pushed them off into the pool as we settled back on the sand in the warm night air.

Eventually a huge full moon rose majestically above the trees at the top of the falls to shine down on the stage. How good is all this!! What a wonderful theatre!! Of course there was no water coming over the falls because we are in the middle of the Dry.
