Springvale Homestead - 125th Anniversary

Alfred Giles built Springvale Homestead from local limestone in 1879. On the birth of each of his four children he planted a South American raintree. These magnificent trees can have a canopy of up to 30 m so they are good shade trees. Over the years, the homestead suffered from periods of dereliction and the flood of 1998 but it has now been restored. We were treated to an afternoon of entertainment - country songs, bush poetry and a guided tour.
