Lancaster and Chester Railway in the 1960s
(part of Carolina
Rails)
Photos by Robert L. Harris*
* I can't thank Robert Harris enough for contributing
these photographs. In the early 1960s, he and his father took a trip to
Florida and caught as many railroads as they could. These shots taken in
Lancaster show how things have changed in the intervening 40 years. I also
wish to think Robyn Watkins of Carolina
Rails for putting us together and pointing out some of the pertinent
details in the shots.
I am always looking more for "classic" L&C scenes.
Here's what is highest in my "wish list" presently.
-
Shots of U6B #63 that briefly replaced the 70 tonners in
1963.
-
Shots of the center cab Whitcombs.
-
Shots of the 70 tonners in either paint scheme.
-
Various railroad settings.
-
EMD SW900s 90 and 91 in previous paint schemes. The last
repaint was in the early 80s.
-
Anything showing how busy the Fort Lawn warehouses were back
in the day.
-
Anything else you have to offer.
Proper credit will be given as well as a link to a web site
address if you have one.
