Robert L. Harris Photo. L&C 70 tonner is seen switching in Lancaster, South Carolina in the early 1960s.
The depot is on the other side of the string of 40 footers which were either going to or coming from the
various Springs-owned textile mills on the L&C. The Southern interchange is a block from here. I believe
that at the time of this shot, both tracks to the left crossed Main Street to the connection. The track with
the 40 footers remains clear for trains going onto L&C's Kershaw District. The spur off to the right is
going to the "big building with the tin roof" that still stands in Lancaster and is on the historic register
of sites. The tracks are still there too, I believe, but under a lot of years of growth and not connected
to another track.
